Legends Tour

The beginning of this month saw the culmination of a fantastic week’s golf at Formby Golf Club and Formby Ladies Golf Club.

Tuesday 27th July saw the opening day’s Pro-Am competition with Wednesday 28th July being the Celebrity Pro-Am day. Stars of screen and sporting legends graced the course in a day that will be remembered by many. We were lucky enough to be able to chat to many of the players on these days and feedback on the course, clubhouse and tournament organisation was exemplary, we were very proud to be able to host a fun filled, action packed two days of Pro-Am competition prior to the tournament itself.

Starting on Thursday 29th July, the PGA Seniors competition, mixed in with the fabulous opportunity for amateur golfers to play alongside the professionals under ‘real’ tournament conditions in the Alliance Pro-Am, was a resounding success. Household names such as Paul Lawrie and Paul McGinley joined a field of over 40 battling against all weathers that could easily fit into all four seasons! Rain delays, thunder and lightning and wind proved to be real tests of character and the ability to play golf under these archetypal links conditions.

A 7 under par total from worthy winner Paul Broadhurst took the trophy and was testament to his consistency and skill in managing his game around a relatively new course to him.

One behind on 6 under were ex Ryder Cup player Thomas Levet and John Bickerton with Open Championship winner Paul Lawrie one shot further back.

With spectator numbers reaching very close to 10000 the club and tournament organisers were very pleased with the interest shown on this fabulous golf coast and we look forward with great excitement to the Legends Tour returning in 2022.
