Following the Men’s Amateur Championships at Formby Golf Club in July and August of this year we were delighted to receive the following feedback from England Golf, tournament organiser.
England Golf has made several visits to Formby Golf Club over recent years and the experience is always excellent.
It starts with a great welcome and continues with tremendous attention to detail, from the very first planning meeting, and unstinting support from the staff and members.
Everyone pulls together to create an event which is enjoyable for all: players, spectators and officials. So, the green staff produce a top-quality course which provides a fitting championship test. The house staff are friendly, efficient and unflappable as they serve endless meals, drinks and other refreshments. The members are generous in ‘loaning’ their golfing jewel and the volunteers give freely of their time to ensure the event runs smoothly. General Manager Stuart Leech makes sure the communications channels are always open and any potential hitches are quickly smoothed out.
Our most recent visit for the 2018 English Men’s Amateur Championship was topped off by great weather. The combination of ideal conditions and a top class course resulted in great golf, with impressive scoring in the stroke play stages and plenty of thrills and spills in the match play with Thomas Thurloway powering to the title.
Thurloway, from Chartham Park Golf Club in Sussex, commented: “I had a fantastic experience at Formby Golf Club, from start to finish everything about the club was top class. The course is one of my favourite layouts and was in magnificent condition all week -hats off to all of the green keepers who worked so hard throughout the week.
“The course condition and layout combined with the welcoming and friendly atmosphere that was created made for truly great championship venue.”
Thank you to James Crampton, Championship Director and Lyndsey Hewison, Press Office at England Golf.
