"There will always be a special place in my heart for Formby Golf Club.  It's links are a tremendous test of golf and the reception I received from the club and its members during the week of the 2009 Amateur Championship was very touching.

Formby has so many exceptional holes but my most memorable is the par 3 16th.  At 139 yards it's short, however, the small raised green is guarded by three deep bunkers and depending upon the wind you can be hitting wedge or four iron.  Par is definitely a good score here."

Nick Dougherty - 3 European Tour victories

"For me Formby is the prize jewel on what is England's finest golfing coast. I was fortunate enough to grow up playing my golf on Formby’s fairways and it no doubt helped to teach me a lot of the skills and shots that have propelled me to being the tour player I am today.... My favourite hole is the first at Formby. I have always been a fan of opening holes that cut out the small talk and get straight to the point.

The 1st at Formby certainly does that.. Out of bounds all the way down the preferable right side of the hole provides a daunting tee shot to even the most accomplished of golfers, and asks the question of you from the opening moment. A difficult narrow entrance to this green also makes approaches from the safe left side of the fairway treacherous and four here is never to be sniffed at."
