Matteo Manassero – Amateur Champion 2009
Players from 25 different countries entered the qualifying stages of this year's Amateur Championship.
Following in the footsteps of Jose Maria Olazabel in 1984, 16 year old Italian Matteo Manassero won
by 4 and 3 over Hampshire’s Sam Hutsby.
It was the last 3 holes of the mornings first round which Matteo won, which setup
the afternoons thrilling golf spectacle.
Despite Sam fighting back with 2 consecutive birdies on the 13th and 14th holes
in the 2nd round of the 36 hole final at Formby, Matteo held on to take the title.
Captain James Harrocks presented the prizes in this the Clubs 125th anniversary.
